(2004)

Over this past Summer Solstice weekend, June 19 ~ 21, more than 100 photographers from around the world took part in an ongoing experiment, the second World Wide Panorama event.

Organized by Don Bain and Landis Bennett (both panoramic authors/enthusiasts and members of the IQTVRA board of directors, an association of Quicktime VR evangelists) this project was open to all who wanted to create and submit their panoramic representations of World Heritage Sites. But alternative locations were also considered. UNESCO's World Heritage Convention mission is to identify, protect and preserve the cultural and natural heritage of the world community.

Michael Maersch's Wukoki panorama can be found on the WWP/SS site HERE . An additional vantage of the ruins, from atop the sandstone outcrop it was built into, can be viewed at his photo Weblog.

Quicktime VR is a powerful photo/graphic interactive technology that provides the viewer the opportunity to experience a location almost as if one were there in person.

By "stitching" together a series of single-frame images utilizing specialized software one is able to create an animation, a seamless view of the site these pictures were made in. A "window" then provides one the vehicle to navigate within the space – you can move to the left or to the right, up and down.
